UNV-Hong Kong Universities Volunteer Internship Programme

Established in 1970, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) provides opportunities for volunteers to contribute to peace and development through volunteerism.Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) is the Hong Kong cooperating organization of United Nations Volunteers (UNV) since 1998 and seeks to promote international volunteerism.  In 2013, an updated Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two parties to provide new opportunities for youth to participate in volunteering worldwide.

With a view to furthering youth volunteerism, the Programme funded by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau has been launched by Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) since 2015, with support from Hong Kong Volunteers Association and Peace and Development Foundation. It allows local university undergraduates to participate in a 6-month volunteer internship under the UN Youth Volunteer modality serving under UN field units or agencies in oversea.

After completion of the UNV oversea volunteer internship, the volunteer interns formed the "United Nations Volunteers-Hong Kong Universities Volunteers Alumni Society",a unit under AVS, to help promoting volunteerism in Hong Kong.
